On Monday our new Cohort class launched bottle rockets outside as one of their first projects. The class is co-taught by several teachers with a focus on project based learning. The students competed to see whose rocket would go the highest. Their were three stopwatches that started as soon as they launched their rockets, and stopped when the rocket hit a tree, landed on the building, or hit the ground. The teachers won by an average of 15 feet. Three times were averaged together and students then had to use their time to create an equation to calculate the distance. Although the students lost against the teachers, Deztany Clay had the highest launch out of all the students. The losing team had to wear science goggles the following school day. Next month’s competition will be an egg drop.
