80 HSA students had the opportunity to visit the WVIZ Studios and hear about Carl and Louis Stokes, local Cleveland natives and brothers, who made a huge impact on the Cleveland community. Lakeview Cemetery and ideastream collaborated to make the program possible for students around Cuyahoga County to attend. Dr. Vivien Sandlund from Hiram College, presented about the brothers and shared well known facts, like their community involvement, educational and political careers as well as lesser known information about their upbringing and how they rose from poverty with education to make a better life for themselves, their families and their community.
After the presentation, students in the audience and those watching the live stream were able to ask questions. Junior Kevin Goolsby asked questions about the brothers and had an engaging conversation with the panelists.
At the conclusion of the presentation, Lakeview Cemetery and WVIZ provided lunch to the HSA group and the speakers, where there was additional time for discussion about the Stokes brothers.
